Summary
Thank you for your interest in my work.
My hope is that my discussion of these various competencies and the evidence I have supplied to show my application of the competencies have provided a brief but broad picture of the different aspects of the library and information science profession. San José State University's School of Library and Information Science has equipped me with the knowledge and tools to connect library users to information in a number of capacities, including developing information tools, choosing appropriate materials, writing grants, describing information for accessibility (cataloging, etc.), providing reference service, teaching classes, or advocating for library services and organizations.
I look forward to continuing to develop my knowledge and skills and always remember the reason for what librarians do--to empower and enrich our communities by providing physical and virtual access to materials and technologies that can help solve their information problems or fill their information needs.

Acknowledgments
I am very thankful to the librarians at the University of California (UC) Merced for allowing me the opportunity to learn more about the library profession and to the director of the Merced County Courthouse Museum who introduced me to archival work. I was inspired to seriously pursue the MLIS after volunteering at both the university and museum during the summer of 2009. To Everette Larson and the folks at the Hispanic Division at the Library of Congress, thank you for the opportunity to work as a Junior Fellow during the summer of 2010. It was an experience I will never forget. To my co-workers at the Stanislaus County Library, I am thankful for the opportunity to work with librarians and library assistants who are committed to our county's residents and have not lost their sense of duty despite these bleak economic times.
To the faculty of San José State University's School of Library and Information Science, many of whom are practicing librarians or former librarians, thank you for encouraging me and sharing your zeal for the library profession and communities we serve. To my classmates, thank you for sharing your library work experiences and insights with me. I would also like to thank the librarians at both UC Merced and California State University (CSU) Stanislaus for allowing me to observe the work they do in order to complete assignments for various courses.
I would like to especially thank my husband, Kory. Thank you for your support and patience. I love you. Mom and Dad, thank you for taking us in while I pursued my library studies. To my siblings, in-laws, and extended family, thank you for always being there for me. Alex, we will always remember you (December 3, 1989-June 14, 2011).
